2002 The first recipient of the John Munley Memorial Swimming Scholarship in 2002 was Nicholas DeFauw.
Nick DeFauw Hometown: West Bloomfield, Mich. High School: West Bloomfield Event: Back/IM Birthdate: 10/29/1981 HS Coach: Bob Crosby Junior: Academic All-Big Ten…John Munley Memorial Scholarship Sophomore: Competed in the 50 free, 100 fly, 100 free at the Big Ten Freshman: Competed in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley at the 2000 Big Ten Championships. High School: A four-year letterwinner...all-state honorable mention in the 200 IM and 100 back his final year...MVP and a team captain as a senior...a National Honor Society member. Personal: Born October 29, 1981... son of Steven and Terry DeFauw. DeFauw’s Lifetime Bests Coach Lutz says: “Nick is another one of our captains and there has never been a question about Nick being a great worker. Sophomore: Member of school record-breaking 200 medley relay team with Ian Clutten, Patrick Saucedo, and Rudolf Wagenaar (1:29.22) and 400 medley relay team with Clutten, Wagenaar and Nick Harley (3:17.05)...swam personal-best times at Big Ten Championships in the 50 free (20.68) and 100 free (45.8)... Most Improved Award winner...Academic All-Big Ten...honorable mention CSCAA Academic All-American. Competed in 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events at Big Ten Championships. 2008-2009 The John Munley Memorial Scholarship Recipient for 2008-2009 and 2009- 2010 was Ricky Forrest Freshman Season: Posted two fi rst-place fi nishes in his fi rst-career meet at Iowa (10/26), winning the 1,000 free (9:33.97) and 200 fly (1:54.97)...Won the 200 fly at Ball State (12/8) with a time of 1:55.28...Recorded a season-best time of 1:51.79 in the 200 fly vs. Oakland (1/25), taking second place...Took first place in the 1,000 free at Valparaiso (1/11).
