The picture with the inscription above is on display in the lobby of the Portage Central Middle/High School Pool in honor of John. A plaque accompanies the picture and lists the annual recipients of the High Expectations Award for the Portage Central High School Boys' and Girls' Swim Team. Jim Schafer, Coach of the Portage Central High School swim teams, wrote the inscription and initiated the High Expectations Award in honor of John. This award is presented annually, during the boys' and girls' high school swimming awards dinners at the end of each swim season, to the swimmer who best exemplifies the dedication, perseverance, sportsmanship and leadership honored by the awarded.

High Expectations Award

In honor of John P. Munley, former PCHS and MSU swimmer,
this award is given to a Portage Central swimmer/diver
who strives to obtain the highest level of performance--
in and out of the pool-- through dedication, perseverance,
sportsmanship, and leadership.

John was a great swimmer,
but he will always be remembered as a greater man.
