John's Writings

The two poems and one written journal entry by John presented below were part of a book of writings found by John's sister Elizabeth the evening before John's memorial service. These were written in 1995 as part of a Journal he kept for his Creative Writing Class at Portage Central High School, and were read by his father as final reflections by John at his memorial service, Friday evening May 4, 2001.

alone but not lonely
--a collection of thoughts
by John Munley

the blue the purple the brown
it looks like i feel
the bottom looks so far away
i feel like a cloud flying
above a valley.
wall.

i feel like dropping something
i'm not alone how can i
i simply think about something
and there is no boredness
maybe for morons there's loneliness
wall

i feel no pressure
no nagging
no noise of people talking
just me and my thoughts
wall

it's hard to express thoughts
a lot harder than having them
people don't think like me
so how can i convey my thought to them
my thoughts are like a group of people talking
talking and sometimes being heard
wall

the problem with people
is the lack of thinking

No pain
-John Munley

If I felt no pain
I wouldn't be human
always thinking
never to be

life hurts more
when I try to live
people are cruel
not thinking

self righteous people
listening to rap
thinking it's life's road map.
hurting those nearby

always looking straight
at life's road.
look to the side
and then they'll see

thoughts kept inside kill
trying seems worse
just wait and see
what it is to live

to live a life
of emptiness
never looking for
what they dream

The universe is said to be infinite, but currently scientists are baffled at the fact that there isn't enough matter to hold the universe together. Black holes could be an answer. A black hole is a dead star that is so dense it's gravity is so strong it doesn't let light escape it's pull. There’s thought that there is a black hole outside the solar system. This is relevant to my thought on death because I believe that is where we go when we die.

My thought on the subject of what happens when you die is that when you die your soul is attracted to this black hole. Your soul consisting of our life energy or the force like in star wars. And our souls are conscious but not like we appear to be. The souls think of a reality and it exists for them. Much like a dream. Our whole existence is based on perception. What we perceive to be real is real. A good example of this is the economy. Look at a dollar bill, what's it worth? A dollar, a dollar is worth something because we believe it is worth something.
